Betsy, thanks for your honest feedback. Once I thought about it I realized, of course the mamas and papas want to be with their children. You aren't looking for a get away, you are looking for ways to spend MORE time with your family. I am sure that is what Gary was getting at, I just didn't understand. I counted it up and there are at least 5 people we know that have children.

Based on the feedback above it seems clear to me what should be done. One, we should plan a "family reunion" style event sometime in the next couple of years. This would need to be held in Memphis, last only one day, and be a day where we can gather together, have fun with each other, and share time with our families without spending a fortune.

Two, we should go ahead and plan a cruise for those who would like to go. This doesn't have to be a group thing, it can just be a fun trip that some of us go on together. As you are all my dearest friends I would be happy if any of you can join us. I am going to take this discussion offline at this time and speak with everyone individually.

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback!

Since you asked for feedback, we would be out. We love you guys, and we are all for getting folks together, but we won't be going on any big (expensive) trips without the kids for the next 18 or so years. I am sure you will all understand when we say that we like them just slightly better. ;)

There is a guy I work with that just got off the Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Sea. This boat happens to be the largest/newest boat in their fleet and he said it was fantastic. The ship is basically the attraction. This boat has everything from Broadway shows, a casino, and a mall. They did port several times but on something like that, I am sure everyone would find something to occupy their time. As far as the food, he did mention that most of the inclusive stuff was good, not necessarily great, except for the fruit; but there were several restaurants on the ship that are "extra".

This guy is a veteran cruiser and he said that Carnival is not the line to go on, they are the bottom of the barrel as far as cruise lines.

Yes big papa, we thought of the children factor. In a couple years your little one will be running and screaming around the house and you won't have a second thought about taking a break from the chaos. ;-) We also thought that with two years warning you should be able to find a babysitter. ha ha

As for your other questions, I have heard plenty of good feedback about cruises. You should ask around and I bet you can find someone who will give you a personal recommendation. Yes, the sleeping accommodations will be smaller than in a hotel, but hey, who is spending time in their room on vacation? These boats are like small cities and if the food and entertainment was total crap I would think it would be hard for them to stay in business. I also think that the best part of a cruise would be the ability to see several ports of call.

I am not opposed to renting a villa somewhere either, but remember our significant others will only have us for entertainment for the entire week. How many glory stories, and piss, shit, dick, and fart jokes will your significant other put up with?

Anybody else ever taken a cruise or want to chime in on the ideas above?

Any idea what it would be like? I've heard that a lot depends on how new the boat is but that it can be cramped and the food/entertainment is similar to all inclusive resorts...which to me means things can be cheezy and repetative. Not nay-saying just asking so we can go look at what's out there. Also, did you guys talk about the children factor?

Just as an alternative, has anyone considered renting a villa somewhere for a week. Similar to Dave and Jen's wedding. Something like that in Hawaii or a European coast area could be pretty wicked!

I do think getting together is a great idea!
